James I. Perkins College of Education Professional Development Travel Committee
The Perkins College of Education (PCOE) Professional Development Travel Committee is responsible for recommending to the dean of the PCOE, funding for faculty professional development activities. Resources are available from the PCOE Development Fund. Membership is comprised of PCOE College Council members, one representing each department and school. Service is for two academic years and is a staggered rotation. The committee chair must have at least one year of experience on the committee. Committee work is primarily electronic and recommendations are made on a monthly basis.
James I. Perkins College of Education Scholarship Committee
The Perkins College of Education Scholarship Committee exists for the purpose of awarding scholarships to education majors. The advising director serves as the committee chair and members are department chair/director appointed and serve a two-year term with a staggered rotation. It meets once each academic year to select recipients for scholarships of varying amounts and requirements for the next academic year. The application process is completed through the Alumni Association and students who best meet stated criteria receive the scholarships.
James I. Perkins College of Education Teaching Excellence
The Perkins College of Education (PCOE) Teaching Excellence Committee is charged with two specific responsibilities. This committee's first obligation is to select a Teaching Excellence recipient to represent the PCOE from among the recipients of each department and school. Once a PCOE representative is selected, the Teaching Excellence Committee plans and implements a college-wide reception in April to honor departmental and school recipients. Committee members are elected by each department/school, serve for a two-year term with a staggered rotation. The co-chairs of the committee are the PCOE representatives from the past two years. The committee meets in early September to establish critical dates and then meets in the spring semester as required by the teaching excellence guidelines.
James I. Perkins College of Education Tenure and Promotion Committees
The Perkins College of Education (PCOE) Tenure and Promotion Committees are charged with recommending to the dean of the PCOE, faculty to be considered for tenure, promotion to assistant professor, promotion to associate professor, and promotion to full professor. Faculty who serve on these committees must be tenured and must have attained the level of promotion being sought by applicants. Each committee consists of one elected representative from each department/school who serves one academic year. The committees select a chair and meet during the fall semester. Committee members use department/school tenure and promotion guidelines to make tenure and/or promotion recommendations to the dean. Meetings follow the department/school recommendations with the majority of the work occurring in late November and early December.
James I. Perkins Curriculum Committee
The Perkins College of Education (PCOE) Undergraduate Council is responsible for reviewing and approving all department/school undergraduate and graduate course proposals, which include the following: adding new programs and/or new courses, deleting old programs and/or old courses, modifying existing courses, and setting or adjusting course fees. Membership consists of the Associate Dean of Assessment and Curriculum (ex officio) and a faculty representative from each department/school who is chair/director nominated and dean appointed. The committee chair must have at least one year of experience serving on this committee. Members serve a three-year term on a staggered rotation. This committee typically meets in the fall semester; the length of meetings and number of proposals determines the number of meetings. The committee guarantees correct forms and materials are submitted to ensure the efficient progression of the proposals throughout the approval process. It examines proposals to avoid duplication of courses and it notes the impact proposed changes have upon students' degree plans and programs.
